{"id":5585,"date":"2014-05-22T08:49:16","date_gmt":"2014-05-22T12:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tcobcur.com\/ver4\/?p=5585"},"modified":"2014-05-22T08:49:16","modified_gmt":"2014-05-22T12:49:16","slug":"pat-musi-racing-engines-enjoying-early-domination-in-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tcobcur.com\/ver5\/pat-musi-racing-engines-enjoying-early-domination-in-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"PAT MUSI RACING ENGINES ENJOYING EARLY DOMINATION IN 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>Rickie Smith, Jason Harris, &amp;amp; Tommy Franklin have\r\nbeen almost untouchable in NHRA Pro Modified and PDRA Pro Nitrous\r\n\r\n(May 20, 2014) MOORESVILLE, NC - While most of the\r\ndrag racing community was enduring a harsh US winter, Pat Musi was making the\r\nmost of a last-minute opportunity to refine his 903 cubic inch fuel-injected\r\nengine combination.\r\n<!--more--><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5586\" alt=\"RSmith_Atlanta\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tcobcur.com\/ver4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/RSmith_Atlanta.jpg?w=600&#038;ssl=1\"  \/>\r\n\r\n\u201cThe 2014 Arabian Drag Racing League series was about to\r\nbegin in Qatar, and I didn\u2019t have any plans to be there,\u201d Musi explained. \u201cThen\r\nat the last minute Shaikh Mohammad Al Sabah of Kuwait put together a deal for\r\nme to go over there and work with his Drag965 team. That set everything in\r\nmotion to get us here.\u201d\r\n\r\nBy \u201chere\u201d, Musi is referring to the top of the Pro Modified\r\nworld.\r\n\r\nJust three months into the 2014 racing season, Musi-powered\r\ncars have dominated the fast doorslammer arena. In NHRA Pro Modified\r\ncompetition, 2013 series champion Rickie Smith has led the way, while Jason\r\nHarris and Tommy Franklin have dominated in the Professional Drag Racers\r\nAssociation (PDRA) and Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod (EOPM) organizations. All three\r\nveteran racers use the Pat Musi Racing Engines 903 EFI powerplant featuring the\r\nnew all-billet cylinder heads custom-built by Dart exclusively for Musi.\r\n\r\n\u201cIn Qatar I had the opportunity to really test a lot of\r\nstuff and just repeat on the same track in the same conditions day after day,\u201d\r\nsaid Musi. \u201cRobert Hayes and I worked with Rickie and his driver Mahana\r\nAl-Naemi, the EKanoo team, and Bader Khoursheed and the Drag965 team. All of us\r\ncombined made over 150 runs and gathered invaluable data. We tested all-new EFI\r\nsoftware and fuel maps and had completely revamped the Edelbrock fuel injection\r\nsystem after those 150 runs. That, along with the incredible new Dart billet\r\nhead, has given us tremendous gains.\u201d\r\n\r\nAfter a runner-up finish at the season-opening race in\r\nGainesville, \u201cTricky\u201d Rickie Smith, regarded by many as one of the best door\r\ncar racers of all time, put on a jaw-dropping performance during the 34th\r\nannual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.\r\nSmith qualified number one with a track record 5.795 at 250.13 MPH, making him\r\nthe first nitrous-assisted Pro Mod to break the 250 MPH barrier. His 5.778\r\nelapsed time in the first round of eliminations set a new nitrous Pro Mod\r\nrecord and was only six one-thousandths of a second shy of a new national ET record.\r\nSmith then marched through the field in his IDG-backed, Jerry Bickel-built 2013\r\nCamaro en route to his first win of the season.\r\n\r\n\u201cLike Pat said, we worked all winter and spent two months\r\naway from our families to work on this combination,\u201d Smith said from the\r\nAtlanta Dragway winner\u2019s circle. \u201cThis Musi 903 is just awesome, and now with\r\nthese billet heads it\u2019s so durable. We\u2019re setting records and not tearing\r\nanything up, and that\u2019s a huge deal.\u201d\r\n\r\nMeanwhile in eighth-mile competition, Jason Harris is\r\nundefeated in PDRA Pro Nitrous after scoring victories at the fledgling series\u2019\r\nfirst two races. Harris\u2019 \u201cWarbird\u201d \u201968 Firebird built by Robert Hayes\r\nMotorsports has recorded more runs over 200 MPH in the eighth-mile than any\r\nother nitrous car to date; that power has carried him to consistent elapsed\r\ntimes in the high 3.70-second range and wins at the season-opening Spring Open\r\nat Rockingham Dragway as well as the Georgia Drags at South Georgia Motorsports\r\nPark. Virginia native Tommy Franklin has had instant success with his new Jerry\r\nBickel \u201969 Camaro, notching two wins in two races thus far in the EOPM series\r\nalong with a runner-up finish at the PDRA Spring Open.\r\n\r\nMusi\u2019s daughter, Lizzy, also made her Pro Nitrous debut at\r\nthe PDRA Spring Open and wasted no time in becoming the first woman to break\r\n200 MPH in eighth-mile Pro Mod racing.\r\n\r\n\u201cAll the years of hard work are paying off,\u201d Pat Musi said.\r\n\u201cThings started to come together this winter, and we\u2019ve been able to carry that\r\nover to start the season in 2014.
