Drachten airfield The Netherlands 14th May 2017: as The Quartermile/DHRA crew was working the track after several oil downs , the opportunity presented to take a look behind the staging lane and take some shot of several competitors or team while their either preparing mechanically or mentally before hitting the gas pedal once staged.

Waiting on the grass at Drachten we passed the velocity racing team and their beautiful grey mustang with blue flames. So a perfect time to take a picture and maybe get an awesome story. Velocity Racing Team has been founded back in 2001 and start racing in 2002 in the super gas/super comp class with this exact Ford Mustang. In 2006 they changed cars and parked this beauty in the garage until they sold her and ship her to Florida (USA) in 2010. The team stayed active till 2012 when they decided to leave the drag racing world. After trying offroad racing for a while they came back to their roots, DRAG RACING. They tracked, bought, ship their old mustang back from Florida to the Netherlands. The car has been stripped, rebuild and prepared for this European season.

If you’re asking yourself why they are back in the drag world? let me quote it for you ‘Het is en blijft de mooiste autosport ter wereld!’. Translated in English; Drag Racing will always be the most beautiful motorsport in the world!.

Still on the grass when we passed a group of bikers preparing themselves mentally prior next race. Moment to stop take the shot and get a story. They aren’t a team so they don’t have a racing name and that’s what they love about it. You are asking yourself Why?, that’s because they were a group of individual that became friends due to the amazing sport of drag racing and decided to stay together during races at Drachten.

At the staging lane they are rivals till the finish line. Once they pass that line, they’ll be back in the pit laughing, having fun and helping each other beating the competition.
