International Raceway Rondeklip, Curaçao, 26th April 2026: For many people, King’s Eve and King’s Day are moments to celebrate, have a party, or just take some rest in celebration of the Dutch King’s Birthday (King Willem Alexander). For car/bike enthusiasts on the island, it is a great opportunity to shine up their vehicle and hit the road. A good day to enjoy the roads and share their passion with each other. For the members of the antique car “Wabi Club,” it was no exception, and so several members and invited guests got together for the club’s annual royal road trip on King’s Eve. The Caribbean gods were on our side, blessing us with a warm breeze, sunny weather, and no raindrops, making it a perfect day for a tour.

Each year, the start and end locations change along with the chosen route. This year, the starting point was the hardware store “Kooyman Sta. Rosa”, northeast of the island, where 30 members and special invites gathered. 13 members brought their cars. Around 15:00, they started their traditional tour, which took about an hour to the first stop, this year, the “Auto City” parking lot, located in Salinja. The location is well known on the island as the building itself has been a car dealer’s since the late nineteen fifties, first as E. Moreno Brandao & Sons and later as Auto City, therefore a great connection with antique cars.

After a good break with snacks and drinks, the tour continues further north toward the Zuikertuintje area and Biesheuvel. The final destination for this trip should have been the sports complex, Sentro Deportivo Korsou (SDK), but a last-minute request from the Club’s board to the board of The Curacao International Raceway Rondeklip was honored, so the tour finished at the local track. The race track was hosting a Test & Tune day at that time in preparation for the international race, “Caribbean Pinks all Out 2026,” held on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd May 2026. The antique cars got a spot in front of the grandstand, where not only the club members got a glimpse of what’s coming the following weekend, but also the local and international racers and the race track guests got a glimpse of the oldest car club on the island (60 years old).

The oldest kid on the block was a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe owned by Myron E. Jacobs. Good to see this nearly 100-year-old participating in all of the clubs’ tour. The car that got our attention this time was the 1975 Chevrolet Caprice (3rd generation). The 1975 Caprice was the longest Chevrolet ever produced, measuring 5.6 meters, and only 8,349 units were ever produced. It can also be recognized by its thick “B” pillars and fixed rear quarter windows, earning it the nickname “glasshouse”. The 1975 American-made convertibles would be the last for a very long time, due to stricter federal safety regulations and declining sales.

We couldn’t let the opportunity pass to ask the club’s president, Sherwin Clemencia, for his thoughts on the day, and he replied, “It was a great day again for all our members; we had a lot of fun.” Thanks again to our members and guests who joined us to make this an enjoyable day. Also, thanks to the racetrack board/Jacky Circuit for allowing us to be there with them. It was a great opportunity as some of our members had never visited the track before, and some hadn’t been there recently.

Wabi Club celebrated King’s Day with their annual tour on the island and finished it at the local race track. It was a good Sunday funday. The next trip will be on 2nd July, on the island’s National Flag Day. Enjoy the photo gallery!
