TIERP ARENA, SWEDEN – 27th August 2017: As Track crew were prepping the track for Pro stock, Top Methanol class, we decided to hit the pits looking for the story behind the story and that took us to the only Dutch team competing in the Super Gas class During the Dico International. The ‘War Horse’ Racing team Sponsored by Eurol lubricants with Eddy van den Bos behind the wheel. As we stopped we we’re wondering what drag race meant for Eddy, how long he’s been racing, why racing in Super Gas class and of course something about ‘War horse’.

For that, we take you back to 2004/2005 when Eddy visit a car show at Shakespeare County Raceway at the Long Marston Airfield. At this time Eddy was a custom car builder , which have done many projects, like a merge of a Camaro (front), a Pontiac (Mid) with a the back of a Corvette. He attended this car show with his own custom build pink Chevrolet C10 pick-up truck and it is where he came in first contact with the world of drag racing. Wanted to take some pictures of his pick-up alongside the track he was offered the opportunity to make pass on the track, he was provided with a helmet and off he went and won 3 rounds in a row. This is where Eddy’s passion started to grow for the world of ¼ mile race.
In 2006 he started racing with this C10 pick-up truck named War Horse and didn’t stop ever since. In 2008/2009 he bought a 1970 Chevrolet Nova also named War Horse, which he debuted with it during Santa Pod races. And of course we we’re wondering what the name ‘War Horse’ meant and Eddy was kind enough to explain it to us. ‘when I was listening to the Metallica’s song named fuel which is a song about drag racing, they shout “One hundred plus through black and white War horse, warhead” and I though, this is a good name for my car’

Besides Santa Pod he raced also at the Rico Anthes Quartermile track at Hockenheim-ring and a lot of races at the Drachten Airstrip in The Netherlands. This year the War Horse racing Team decided to expend their season and join the Dico International races at Tierp Arena, and if you are wondering why? In his owns words ‘Doe eens iets geks’ which means let’s do something crazy.

Super gas? Well, Eddy normally doesn’t drive Super gas, as this class is 9.90 second or slower and War Horse runs 9.50 seconds which is PRO ET. PRO ET is a class for bracket races that runs between 9.00 to 11.99 seconds. But PRO ET isn’t part of the Dico International races, so that’s why he decided to try Super Gas. Eddy manage to qualified as 3rd in the Super Gas class and 1st elimination round without any computer on-board (Trottle stop/Delay box). He only kept the right throttle position and a close eye on the shift light. Eddy manage to set an awesome time of 9.9028 second by only playing with the gas pedal!

So what does Drag mean to Eddy? In his own words: ‘It is my relief valve, the need to achieve a goal, the passion for drag racing is just beautiful, the speed, the sensation, my team and the team work’.
