Hockenheim-ring, GERMANY 11th August 2018: Less than one week remaining for the 2018 Nitrolympx weekend! This means that the ‘Rico Anthes Quartermile’ track is open to the public and all race fans. It is the traditional weekend where some drivers will make the final adjustment to their car or bike prior to the 4th FIA round (Nitrolympx). The track was also open to the public, meaning everyone with a driving license and registered car can make some passes on the track. A lot of interest from the street community from the conventional Honda to an electric Tesla!

One difference this year is that ‘The ‘Markenoffenes Tuning-Treffen’ is missing. Like past years Public race days was organized combined with a Tuning show. But due to multiple concurrent events (Formula Student, Motor cross bike etc) taking place at Hockenheim-ring, the organization has moved this to the high-performance weekend June this year. Here are some highlight of the several classes.
Competition Cars; Rolf Ammann made his first pass in his ’37 Chevrolet Coupe and booked a stunning 7.12-second run. Rolf was one ‘early bird’ in this class to test the car and get a feeling on how the car behaves on the track.

Super Gas (9.90 sec index) class; Eddy van de Bos is competing once again with his Chevrolet Nova ‘ War Horse’ in Super Gas after giving it a try out last year during the 5th FIA round at Tierp. The team worked all winter and half summer to rebuild the engine and put the car back together. Eddy booked a 9.618-second pass at 215 Km/u. on his first pass and backed that up with 9.68 seconds in his second run. Eddy will once again make an attempt to run Super Gas without any onboard computer. Will he manage to keep ‘War Horse’ in the 9.90 seconds?

Also testing his car for Super Gas is René Kloss who was able to keep his car above the 9.90 index- time and booked a good 9.96-second pass. Also testing their cars, where Oscar Scappocin in his Chevrolet Nova and Andrea Villi His ’67 Chevrolet Camaro, both booked a decent time for a competition in Super Gas.

Super Comp (8.90 sec Index) class: Micheal Kietz was spotted, testing his ’07 Ford Mustang, Micheal who’s also well-known racer at Drachten and Jade races manage to run an 8.959-second run which is pretty good for this class.

In the bike world on the other hand; Mike Olie was spotted testing his ’05 Suzuki GSX1100. He will be competing in the Funny bike class next week. Even though he struggled a lot to keep the bike straight, Olie manages to set a 7.88 second in his first run. He Later improved his time by 0.202 seconds on his second attempt (7.6790-second run)

Junior Drag Bike class: Maggie Talbot, the Joung driver from Holland/England made her first couple of passes and booked a 9.381-second run.
A successful 1st day of the public race days, drivers will keep making the final adjustment awaiting the Nitrolympx weekend. Will there be changes tomorrow? Stay tuned! As tomorrow the last test runs will be made.
