Curacao Festival Center, 26th of March

The 1st Drift Competition of 2019 was held last week at Festival Center. With new LED lights and a cleaned track layout and huge judges tower, Gabi and his crew were ready for this event.

This event also marks the return to drifting by Rene and Roy.
Both were more than 6 years inactive but returned to the sport.
Roy was part of the judges so he did not run, but Rene was ready to rock.

The crowd was there also from the beginning. Even dough the organisation made more seats available, still these were almost filled to capacity even prior to the beginning of the afternoon actions.

Between the runs the track was kept hot with hooning and fever from other drivers who did not qualify or just came out to hoon at the event.

Leading the pack was Gabi himself in Savage Camaro and we also saw the return of Erderly in his Mazda RX-7.

We also saw the return of Leandro to the track in his new S15.

He used to borrow Rene’s ride and just stomp the limiter in it going sideways.

Now he has his own machine to hoon and drift with. The drift scene is just exploding again on the island. We are very happy to see this and also will do everything to support this positive vibe.

Eliminations – Making it a trough comeback!

This event was all about who could maintain the smooth line while hitting the clipping points and having some kind of proximity while chasing.
The final 4 saw Rene vs Ricky Bobby and Ali vs Brandon

Check out the runs we recorded below

Ali won after Brandon made a small mistake while leading on outer zone 2.
It was a very tight and heated battle, but in the end Ali came out with the win.
Brandon being the higher qualifier in the losing 2 people of the final 4, gets 3rd place for the event.

Ricky came out fighting hard and gave Rene a chase with close proximity.
But on his lead run, he went wide of the first 2 clipping points.
Rene on his turn made a textbook leadrun and was awarded the win.

After a long time we have seen Ali really show us all he got.
It was so tight, that they went One More Time.
The 2nd time around, Rene did not give Ali a chance and put his S15 to his door and did not back down.

When Ali was chasing the next run he made a small mistake, and Rene ran away with it.

We congratulate Rene with his comeback and also Gabi da Camara for all his efforts to make these events happen.
