World Cup finals have been sold out for the fifth year in a row, and it’s for a reason. The track is in excellent condition, and teams here go all out. Something will break here at Maryland, if it ain’t record it is parts or something else! One team on a mission this weekend is JTaylor Motorsport, with Jimmy Taylor behind the wheel. Their mission here is to break into the four-second zone with a doorslammer Pro Modified, and they’re pretty close. On Saturday, Taylor pushed his Camaro to a 5.114 at 262 mph with 0.039 reaction time. This is still a new quarter-mile world record. Sunday will be the last chance for them to make this attempt here at Maryland International Raceway.
After the last qualification round for the Extreme vs. Oultlaw (OVE) competitors, there were no changes in the top two: Eric Laferrierie (Sake Bomb) and Omar Gomez (Zoian) remained in the number one and two spots. Laferriere didn’t improve his time, but his 5.647 seconds were just enough to maintain his number one spot. Gomez, on the other hand, managed to improve his time to 5.648 seconds at 255 mph, just 0.001 seconds behind Laferrierie. Chris Rankin, who was third yesterday, got pushed to the fourth spot by Cleetus McFarland (Eagle). McFarland drove his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro in 5.729 seconds at 261 mph to claim the number three spot. With this run, McFarland reset the speed clock on radial tires. On Sunday, Laferrierie will meet number 16h; Ray Morton in his 1989 Sierra pick up, while Omar Gomez will meet number 15th Jerry Fernandez Jr in his Toyota Supra. McFareland will meet Henry Carcia (Intocable) in E1.

For Radial vs Modified (RVM), it was still Derick Santiago (Pimar) on top after the last qualification round, with 5.902 seconds at 238 mph. Carl Burnet is in second place with a 5.964 seconds at 237 mph, and Eric Laferriere (White Rice) is in third. Santiago will meet Jose Ury Morales (Four D) in E1, while Burnet will meet Meil Ramkisso (Blue JZ) in E1. Laferriere will need to battle it out with Miguel Rivera (Yankee)

Brett Lasala is still on top in X295 vs Hot Rod (XVHR) after the last of the qualification. No improvement for Lasala and his 5.979 seconds from the previous run will remain as the fastest. Keith Rhea (Wonder Bread) managed to improve his time from 6.28 to 6.133 seconds at 235 mph to take second place. Karl Pritz (Oscar), who couldn’t improve his 6.157 seconds at 227 mph, ended up in third place. While Lasala will meet on the 16th, Joe Taub (Crowd Control) will meet number 15, Christ Boyette (The BRZ), during the first round of elimination (E1). Karl Pritz will meet Eric Jarvis (Sally) in E1.

Our local driver, Senthley Martina (Nicson), managed to improve his time and get back in the game by running a 7.014-second run at 200 mph to claim the number twelve spot. Martina will meet Dale Arnold in E1. Also, Vermina Angela from our sister island, Aruba, improved her time and climbed the ladder from the 10th to the 9th spot. Vermina ran a 6.840 second at 210 mph during the last qualification run. Vermina will meet number 8th Jose Jimenez Jr. (Dirty Taco) in E1.

In Warriors vs Tres Cuarto (WVTS), there were no changes and no improvements in the top three, with Giomar Colon-Rodriguez (The Judge), Eric Gash (BBREX), and Alfredo Najri (Trueno) in the number one, two, and three. Colon-Rodriguez will meet number 32nd Zdung Ho (Z’S Charger), and Eric Gash will need to battle it out with number 31st Andrea Ramos. Alfredo Najri will meet number 30th Jayriel Arroyo (El Humilde is Back). Vick Werleman, in his 1981 Toyota Corolla ‘Ms Luella’ from our sister island, Aruba, couldn’t improve his time, but his 6.584 seconds at 206 mph from previous runs were fast enough to maintain his 13th spot. Werleman will meet Aillen Melendez Morales in her Toyota Starlet in E1.

Significant improvement was seen in Pro Street Bike (PSB), but Jason Dunigan remained the top qualifier. Dunigan pushed his Suzuki Hayabusa even more to an astounding 6.295 seconds at 235 mph. Justin Shakir ran a 6.324 seconds at 236 mph to claim second place. Third place is now for Mark Rendeluk, who didn’t manage to improve yesterday’s 6.389-second run, which was still good enough for third place. Remarkable to see that Willifords 6.38 which he qualified first last year, is a third place this year.

Stay tuned for the last day of the 29th edition of the World Cup Finals weekend (elimination rounds!). Race will resume for the 16-Car Fields on Sunday at 11 am with the following run order:
AM, XFWD, DCT, STK, WS, LS. Then it will continue with the 8-Car fields. We at The Chronicles of Boost would like to wish all competing drivers good luck and, above all, have fun!
